'72 seat belt guide in carpet?

The PO installed a new carpet kit, but the belts just run through slits in the carpet.

I see seat belt guides available at Paragon for the '68-'71 cars, but no mention of a guide for the '72.

Did I miss something in their catalog, or is something different about the '72 car?

    Any tips appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Doug

Doug, my 72 has plastic black covers next to the sills, I would guess there were guides, and I believe that the protect them, I had them out when I did my carpets.

1972 is the first year to use retractors. My '72 has the retracors mounted to the floor and as Edward suggests, a plastic cover to protect against "stuff" from interfering with the retractor. Carpet is cut out to the sill and on the sill itself, there's a steel bale that contains and guides the belt between the outboard seat edge and the sill. I'm away from my PC for the next couple days, but if you want, I think I have a photo or two that I will share. Hope this helps.

Is there just a slit in the carpet where the belt comes through, or is there some sort of plastic grommet that trims off the slit in the carpet?

          Thanks,
          Doug

Click on the photos (opens a new window) then click on it again. Pick the full screen option and get a good look.

This one is a 69 000 mile 72. You can get a first hand look at this + my Bowtie 72 at the MI Chapter event on March 19th.

That is as finished, factory correct, and ready for seat install? No carpet around the belt?

My car has carpet over the black painted area, with a slit cut in the carpet that the belt comes through. I will poke around further to see if that black thingy that covers the belt is under my carpet. Thanks.

                Nice color combo.

Yes, I know my valve covers are not correct. A few other things need attention also, but not bad for $11K, rust free, never hit..

                Doug

The first pics shows my belt area, dunno if you see the carpet there in this pic.

                  Doug,

What you see in my photos is exactly how the factory did it. No carpet along that edge. In most of the photos the seats and belts are out + the belt covers. In one the belt cover is back in place. Copy the photos and you'll match what happened in 1972.
