Re: LED 1157 replacement bulbs
I just installed these on my 66 Coupe. Got them a Corvette Central. They are much brighter than the incandescent bulbs and took about 15 minutes to install. With only a single red tail light on each side, it makes me feel a little safer even in daylight. The backup lights are now actually useful.
When I go to the Corvette Central website, I find the LED bulbs shown in the attached photo. Any idea what the difference is between those and the ones you show?'

Re: LED 1157 replacement bulbs
Attached are some pictures I just took comparing an 1157 incandescent bulb, and also a 12 L.E.D. bulb to the L.E.D. tail light assembly.
The pictures of each combination were taken straight on and then at approx. a 45 degree angle.
The first picture on the left is the L.E.D. bulb (left) and the L.E.D. tail light assembly straight on.
The second picture is the same combination from a 45 degree angle.
Notice the lack of light on the chrome tail light housing. This is due to the focused nature of the bulb, with the light shining straight out.
The third picture is a incandescent bulb (left) and the L.E.D. light assembly taken straight on. The righthand picture is the same 2 taken at an approxmate 45 degree angle. The brightness of both the sources stays the same.
My point being that although the L.E.D. bulb is bright it does not view well from different angles.
Please note that the L.E.D. bulb has 12 L.E.D.s as compared to 15 in the tail light assembly.

Re: LED 1157 replacement bulbs
I think that you need to shop LED's. There are differences in different brands. I have three different 2157's on my desk right now. One has about 10 LED's in the rear facing lens, Another has that many in the rear and about 6-7 around the side, and the other must have 15 in the rear and 10 around the outside. Same price, all under $10.00Dick Whittington- Top

For the same price, what's the downside to the 15 in the rear and 10 around the outside. Sounds best to me. Who sells that one?

Re: LED 1157 replacement bulbs
Gary, I would have to do some research as to who sells which one. I bought a quanity of them to put in all the vehicles around here.
I believe the one with the diodes around the outside would be better for a vehicle that used the tail lamp as the side marker also. Such as a Tahoe, etc. The ones with all the diodes in the back would work well for vehicles such as C-3 Corvettes as they have a separate side marker.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: LED 1157 replacement bulbs
Not to run this thread on forever, but I also bought a couple of the LED 1157 bulbs like Gary shows in his post above to use for my front turn signals. Thought I'd go 100% LED. Well, they turned out to be a big disappointment. Not nearly as bright as the old incandescent bulbs. So out they came. If anybody wants them let me know.- Top

Re: LED 1157 replacement bulbs
Steve,
They are manufactured by United Pacific Industries Carson, California.
Actual country of origin is Taiwan. UPI designs, tests and makes a full line of heavy equipment L.E.D. lights, Hot Rod lights for street rods and customs and many replacement light assemblies for Corvettes, Fords, Chevys and so on.
I came across them at the Street Rod nationals in Louisville, KY about 5 years ago and have been a distributor of thier Corvette tail lights since then.
Thier L.E.D. tail lights caught my attention and I like the appearence and safety aspects of the products.- Top

Re: LED 1157 replacement bulbs
Sounds like I ordered the two front parking light LED bulbs 1 day too soon; after seeing the side by side comparison. However, you can have a light bulb with 12 LEDs that does not have the same wattage output as 3 LEDs. I am hoping that the 3.9 watt 1157 bulbs I purchased are brighter than the 12 LED bulbs, but I may be disappointed and poorer $34. Sounds like the rear read 1157 bulbs may be ok. I will know in a few days!- Top

I do not think you will be disappointed.
I have the 3.9 watters in the front of my '61 and they are real bright. I actually ordered the amber ones since modern turn signals are amber, and witha clear lens, they show up as amber. It is real noticable from any angle.
