    Spinning #4 capture nut

Disassembeling 67 convertible for restoration. #4 body mount bolt and capture nut spins. I have never removed and replaced the cage and nut before. Appears that I gain access to cage by removing deck lid spring. Seems to be one bolt towards front of spring mount plate going into body mount reinforcement bracket. Do I have to remove the body mount bracket also? Sggestions on how to replace #4 cage and nut ? Thanks

i've resorted to cutting the bolt in half rather than tryin to get my fat rear end up in that cramped space. if the gas tank is out, get the hot wrench after the offender.mike

You do need to remove the body mount bracket also as the cage nut bracket gets riveted in place before the bmb gets riveted back in place. Rear deck lid spring and hinge bracket need to come out.

Thanks Russ and Mike. Got it figured out and ready to tackle the job.

Did you get it out? I have the same issue with my 66 roadster; the rest of the frame is detached from the body.

I did get it out. First, mine was really the #5 not #4, sorry. Mine is the capture nut behind the deck lid spring. I cut the bolt between the frame mount and body. Then was able to work behind the spring and free the capture cover and free the bolt and nut.

That's the same bolt I am having a problem with; I may end up doing the same thing. Thanks!

I removed the cage (it was rusted) and used a pair of vice grips which were held from spinning by the rear bulkhead. I soaked it first and left the spring in place.

I just cut both of mine on my 65 coupe while working towards my body-off. Once the body is off what do I need to do to restore the capture nut ? Do I just need to rivet in a repro assembly ?

Yes Mark. Just rivet a new nut with capture bracket into place.
