Repo window stickers and tank stickers

I know this is a touchey subject and some are sold to be aged and passed off as original, but It would be nice to have for display at local shows. I would not even mind it they said on them somewhere that is is a recreation and not a GM document. I would like a new tank sticker to put on my new tank. I know I can get them but then would I feel kinda sleezy about them.
I think it would be cool for someone (NCRS??) to offer them with some kinda disclaimer about originally.

its too bad there is no such thing for vettes like marti report, govier, or pontiac historical society documentation. i have used phs on several of my cars. its a great service. it tells you everything about your pontiac. invoice to dealer where sold new,all the options, and you can even get reproduction window sticker.
there has to be some kind of paperwork hidden in an old factory somewhere on all these old vettes. how great that would be!

There is big $$$ behind that documentation never seeing the light of day, regardless of what the "insider experts" say about its existence.

I have a reproduction one made for my Chevelle done by the big reproducers of them. I can't tell you how many people think its a real one at car shows. even though it looks and is brand new

I too have had a repro on my 63 for many years, but I have the original in safe keeping. I recently had the repro redone because there was a number transposition for the dealer code/zone. My original was not legible in that portion. I found this out by ordering the shipping data from NCRS.

As for the sticker on the car; it is the biggest draw to the public. Everyone gets a laugh out of the original cost and jokes about their willingness to pay me sticker for the car now. My response used to be "just add a zero", but not anymore. Also, I advise them that I didn't pay sticker, rather $50. over dealer cost (a family friend). The fact that I state that it is a one owner car is important to the Vette people, but of lesser interest to the typical show folk.

I keep reading that the records for the St.Louis cars were tossed many years ago, and that other than shipping records nothing exists. I understand that there is a financial and stay out of jail reason that no records should be ever found. The Marti reports for Ford were saved before they were trashed. Does anyone know how the Pontiac records were saved and accessed, but the Chevy records were not? Was it the lack of space at St.Louis for storage? Were there no other records of production kept anywhere other than St.Louis?

Funny Stu. I get the same question and offers to buy for "full sticker price" when my repro window sticker is displayed. After that, they ask if I bought the car new. I tell them, nawh, I wasn't old enough to drive when this car was built...

                  John -

St. Louis didn't "store" ANY production records; they teleprocessed the daily production report to Chevrolet-Central Office - they handled the production records for all 16 Chevrolet assembly plants.

Chevrolet built more units in day than Pontiac built in a week, and Pontiac chose to keep the records - Chevrolet didn't.

                  Gotta love the conspiracy theories.

I got the same response to my repop window sticker: "I'll pay you the total cost right now"!!!
So, I made a copy of that sticker and added a line at the bottom: DEALER PREP $120,000, and placed that on the window. Afterall, that's a typical "adder" on new cars today.
That usually stops 'em in their tracks!!! The offers to buy have been significantly reduced.

I can only imagine the mountains of boxes filled with paper work if they saved everything from each Chevy line over the years.

Buy a blank. Type your stuff on it, and stick it in the window at the next car show.

Been there, done that. Years ago I bought a number of blanks and tried to duplicate my original with the benefit of a great computer system. Now, perhaps if I had a lot more time, (at work then) I could have come close to the font and proper justification. But I played with it far too long w/o success. I'd rather pay a good vendor a few bucks to have something that looks presentable. Besides, they have the way to duplicate the s/no. stamp just like the original.

So is it ok to the majority of folks here to get a repo as long as they don't age it? I know I don't need permission to get one but I still think a NCRS version with a small disclaimer would be cool.
