What is the correct size pressure plate/clutch for a 427/425hp 1966 vin #105630?

    THANKS
    Barry -

That car was built originally with a 168-tooth flywheel and an 11" clutch.

If you want to have some fun with that big block get a #14085720 flywheel from your local Chevy dealer. It weighs 15 pounds and will make that baby zing. They came stock on the 396/425 and the L-88. they are a 153 tooth wheel and require a 10.5 in. clutch. You will have to change the nose on your starter thats it. You'll think your driving a race car. I've been putting these in every 4 speed car I own for years. I've installed perhaps half a dozen for friends, in everything from Corvettes to 56 Chevy's.I have never had a complaint about drivability. In fact every owner has been ecstatic.By the way they are a welcome addition to any small block as well. I've had one in my 66 L79 since the 60's.

        John and Barry------

One of the things that creates a lot of confusion here is that there are some sources, including some GM sources, that indicate that 1966 Corvettes with 427 used a 12-3/4" flywheel and 10.4" clutch. However, I don't think that these sources are accurate. I believe that virtually all, if not all, 1966 Corvette big blocks used the 14" flywheel and 11" clutch. It's possible that some very early did use the smaller flywheel and clutch (like 1965 L-78) but I highly doubt it.

It's been my experience that 66 and 67 big blocks came with the 168 tooth flywheel with an 11 inch 10 spline clutch disc. The exceptin to this was the 65 396/427, which came with the 153 tooth flywheel 10.4 or 10.5 10 spline disc. I've been told the L-88s also shared this combo. It's called revolving mass. and it makes a great difference in the way they respond.
