C1 front brake line clips - Where do they go?

Attached is an image from the 1960 AIM. There are two clips that are supposed to hold the front brake line to the crossmember.

I do not have holes in the crossmember for the clips. If they are there I can't find them.

Anyone out there with a 1960 that can tell me what's the deal?

    Thanks,

    Don

    Don,
They are inserted in the crossmember from the back side.
The brake line going from the drivers side to the passenger side then clips in them.
I believe they are the same for all C1 cars.

Here's a pix of 62 brake line....there is a clip and drilled hole just to the left of the right tower.

Unless I am blind, my crossmember does not have the holes. Here are pictures of the same location in Jerry's picture of the crossmember.

          Wonder what gives

            Don,

I think the clip holes were between the 2 holes that held the lower a arm.

Sure looks like yours are missing or possibly your crossmember is so shiney I can't see the holes.

            Seems pretty strange to me.

I can't attest to the originallity of the 62 pix or any difference between 59 and 62....just thought you might look in same location.....good luck

I think I may have an earlier chevy crossmember!!!!! My understanding from Tom Parson's comments is that the 49-54 chevy front end is pretty much the same as C1 corvette.

There are some holes and plates on the top of my crossmember that are not on any other pictures I have of other folks frames.

                  Don,
It might be a early full size Chevy crossmember. The body of the crossmember is the same but the third arm and possibly hole locations are different.

                    Thanks,

I sent a picture to Tom Parson's to see if he could tell me what I have. I think the A-frames, spindles and such are correct corvette. Because I did find inspection markings on the spindles under the crud and paint when I cleaned them up to paint. I believe I have read on other thread that the inspections marking locations were unique to vettes, and the ones I found matched what has been identified as being correct.

I guess I will go ahead and drill holes for the fuel line clips. Other than that, not sure what this means to my restoration. I am the final stage of getting the chassis (minus engine) back together after a lot of work. I had the frame, crossmember and other front suspension parts blasted and powdercoated. So if I have an incorrect crossmember it will be very painful

as i was forced to use a nos 49-54 chevy pass car front crossmember on one of my recent c-1 restorations, i can state that there are holes to drill and holes to fill in making the pass car x-member configured exactly like a c-1 x-member.mike

Don, Looking at your photos you have a passenger car front cross member. You will need to drill holes for the clips and also knock off the 2 flat plates on top and fill the holes.

                          Don,

Posted this photo previously of a passenger car front cross member. Notice the 2 holes that Paul referred to.

Also check to make sure you have the Corvette steering knuckle supports. Corvette cast part numbers are 3733449 left & 3733450 right. Photo was posted by another Member. Left side is passenger car & right side is Corvette.

i crawled under my 1960 last night and the clip holes are located as follow: From the outboard A arm bolt head, go straight up to the center point of the crossmember and then move 3/4" toward the center of the crossmember. Hope this helps.

                              Don,
For a fact, you DO HAVE a pass car front cross member (specifically 49-51). Thus, there were NOT any holes in the pass car cross members. You will have to take the information provided by others above for the location of the holes and drill them in your cross member.
Also, as I explained in an email, those holes/squares were for the front engine mounts on 49-51 pass cars and will be completely covered by the fan shroud when everything is assembled, so I wouldn't really get concerned about removing them and filling the holes.
