    1978 C3 Correect oil filter

Can anyone confirm which AC oil filter came out of the factory on the 78
L-48 engine. Was it the Blue canister spin on or was it the Blue and White spin on filter.

The spin on canister was painted BLUE and there was a rectangular paper label that was blue, white, and I think a little red.

Is the OEM oil filter not described/illustrated in the TIM&JG?

It is...and in detail. Tom's question may have related to whether the L48 came with a filter different than the L82 but here's the description in the AIM. JL's reference to "red" was AC Delco logo.

Thanks to all that helped confirm the proper application.

            Tim,

Yes, it's the Duraguard PF25 oil filter. I bought a supply when Kmart used to carry the AC/Delco line (now I sound like Joe Lucia!), but my supply ran out...you can find them on ebay quite frequently. I try to pay no more than $10 each.

Tom Russo is the '78 expert, but I've learned a lot over the years getting my SA to a Top Flight. PM me if you have any other questions.

            Greg.

I long ago purchased a supply of the AC ULTRAGUARD (synthetic media) oil filters in sizes UPF-25, UPF-1218, and UPF-52 when they were still available. For my personal use, my supply is, essentially, "inexhaustible".

Greg...you're too kind. I just keep reading the NCRS tech manual.

Yeah I too have stashed away a case of Duraguard PF25s and have a couple dozen of those little blue one's with the paper sticker...see photo

How about a stash of these (of which these are a few)?

Nice but those would be a deduct for a 78 Corvette.

Especially when you have to drive your Corvette to "use" an oil filter.

Yes, I've got to admit that the 69 has definitely not used an oil filter in a LONG time. Even the 92 uses just one per year and, strangely, when I change it and the oil, the oil looks just about like the day I poured it in! At my rate of consumption of the UPF-52 filters I should have enough to last me until I'm about 120 years old. By that time, though, I'll probably need someone to help me to change the oil and filter.
