    Newbie says...

    Hello from Edmond Oklahoma!

New NCRS member, and I am new to C2 Corvette ownership also. I have been reading a few posts, and I must say that you guys have DEFINITE issues....forgive me if I ask dumb questions, as the insanity has just begun for me. I guess I am moving from "Racers Anonymous", to "Corvettes
    Anonymous".

30 years of GM products drag racing experience, as I currently have two cars that will run sub 8 second quartermile times. I have loads of GM and Ford automatic transmission experience (if I can remember). I currently work for long time a tier 2 supplier to GM (transmissions), Ford (transmissions), Chrysler (engines and transmissions), Subaru (engines and transmissions) and Suzuki (transmissions). Also, a devoted BBC racing engine builder/assembler...

Welcome, many old racers among us, NHRA Stock and SS for me, Ovals and roadracing for others, and a long time love affair with Corvettes.

      Welcome Glenn,
Welcome to the Corvettomania that most of us are caught up in. I have no racing hx except for living in Charlotte NC and living in the same neighborhood as Bruton Smith's ex-wife Bonnie Smith who tried many times to make a move on my husband. Shame, shame!

      Hope you enjoy the experience.

            Thanks all!

I really appreciate the welcome, I hope I can be supportive on the board.

Scott, I am not currently a membler of any local Corvette clubs in the area. So I am in desperate need of some local technical resources and contacts for sure! PM me if you have any information.

              Glenn,
As we discussed on the phone, if you want to be involved in NCRS type correctness and judging, I'd encourage you to join the Okla NCRS chapter. It is a great group of enthusiasts.

                Hi Glenn,
I started the Southern Cal Chapter NCRS, but have been an avid Corvette Race guy since day one. See the REGISTRY OF CORVETTE RACE CARS website at www.registryofcorvetteracecars.com. Jan Hyde, Wayne Ellwood and I are very proud of our efforts. We have worked hard to keep it pure for ORIGINAL cars with real history.

So get your Corvette Race car out and moving. See the HERITAGE AWARD section of NCRS just for such great examples of Race history.

I'm not James, but you might find this interesting. I drove this modified 1960 Corvette owned by Larry Martin back in the mid 1970's. There was another car earlier called "Vicious Vette" which I believe was a 1957. As recall it was crashed and destroyed.

This car was originally owned by Bob Pickett. He raced it in the 1960's with a blown Chrysler hemi in it. The best I ran with it was a 9.33 at 144 miles per hour at Orange County International Raceway with an all steel 454 big block Chevy.

While it's not a Corvette, my current race car is a Monte Carlo which has run as quick as a 5.54 at 259 miles per hour in 2009 at Pomona in the TA/FC final round after winning the 2009 Las Vegas Nationals 2 weeks earlier.

By the way, I have been searching for at least 10 years for any information on the car pictured above. It was sold in 1977-78 and not seen since. If anyone thinks they may have information on it I would appreciate hearing from you.

Welcome Glenn. I grew up in Tulsa, OK and helped build and work at the Tulsa International Raceway in the late '60s. My brother and I raced a couple of Supercharged Gassers and were runner up at the World Finals in CC/SG in '69. I am very sorry to this day, that I got severely burned in '69 with the car, graduated from college and got married and that ended my racing career. You will see me in Bowling Green, KY this June with the NHRA Reunion. A bunch of old racers remember the past.

I now have a '64 Vette that was originally a SCCA race car in the 70's. I got into the NCRS, joined the local club and its been a great help and supportive group in restoring this car. I suggest that you find your local club and get active.

Welcome and have fun, that's what's life if about.

If you look at the ROSTER section, which lists cars chronlogically, look under Race Series and you will see SCCA, FIA etc. are the most prevelant. Last year, we started posting NHRA, and ISCA Drag race cars. We know we have very few cars, but then again we want cars that are still in collections, not just cars photos from the good old days. One of the best cars is Don Hampton's 1954 E/P Six Cylinder car that was a National Record Holder. Look here http://registryofcorvetteracecars.co.../view_cars/570 and you will see that entry. Dan owns the car and is still having fun with it. The car was at the Corvette Museum last year.

We do have "Smugmug" and Google Picaso Album sites for just pictures.

We need a Drag Race Historian with passion to join the team. The pay is terrible, but we have fun, and at this stage in my life, the REGISTRY work keeps me smiling every day.

Randy, It was at the POMONA SWAP meet about a year ago and sold in the first two hours. I saw it, waited around the car for about 45 minutes and the owner was no where to be found. Two hours later it was gone.

That means it's still in the area. Hmmm.
