    Brake Line

Is it possible to replace the brake line that goes from the engine compartment to the rear of the car on my 1964 roadster with the body on the car? If it is posssible how would I go about getting to the line and clips?

Thanks in advance for any guidence you can provide.

Without lifting the body you can't get the line in the way the factory installed. You can get close but will have to install the line exposed at the rear kick up.

Dave, I installed a front to rear line on my friends 63 vert. We spent many hours trying to install in one piece, But after many hours of straighten the line and re-bending we caved in and decided to make it two pieces.

With the line on top of the frame rail it makes it impossiable , and then to add the fixed cross member, and all those bends. according to my friends re-search it has been done, But I would bet that they don't have many hairs left on there head.

We did how ever after making the two piece work, we tucked the line back up on top of the rail, there is one trick with the union of the two lines make sure you put the union in area were if fits between the body and frame its a tight fit, more toward the rear behing the seats.

      Good Luck

Does the same scenario apply to the fuel line? I ask because my '66 has an improperly-routed fuel line that I'd love to correct without a body lift.

Andrew, that line will be next to impossible. some of the line that runs down the frame rail can be done in pieces, but where the kick -up is that bend is sandwiched between the body and frame. no room. you maybe able to piece in but no fun there.

                Dave,
I replaced the front to rear brake line on my 64 in a little less than 3 hours with the body bolted to the frame. This included replacing the clips on top of the frame. The car was on jackstands in a one car garage. The line was purchased locally, so it came with the correct bends and I didn't have to unfold it. I removed the drivers side rocker panel and rear tire. I fed the brake line into the wheel well going between the inside frame rail and the body. I then worked the line into place reaching under the car and going through the space provided by the removed rocker panel. The only tricky part was aligning the line around the frame kick-up. Bending was very minimal.
