    Re: C1 1957 flasher problem

Basicly, my problem is the directional signal does not flash. the brake lights worked, when hand lever is initiated , the brake lights works. the front lights work and the directional dash lights work. I installed two new ZN232,no improvement. Any ideas?

    Re: C1 1957 flasher problem

I had a similar prob. in my 58 car 1 year ago, seems it was a blinker prob. also with everything else working, I think I remember having a bulb put in the socket wrong, arent the nubs different height so as to be put in only one way into the socket, seems I pulled it out and turned it around and then it was fine, food for thought, Hmmm? Good Luck, Brad.

Thanks Brad for taking your time to give me some input. I don't think I mentioned that I attached a test light to the wires where the flasher connects to and I had a bright light. Least week everything worked perfectly. Hey Mike, I bet you have had some experience with this problem. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

        Jerry,
are the lamp bulbs 1157 or 1034? Bob

Hello Bob, all the bulbs are 1157. The system worked perfect 2 weeks ago. Maybe 1157 drew too much current and blew the flasher. Is there any way to test a flasher?

            Jerry,
for that ZN232 flasher to blink at the proper rate you will need to replace your 1157 bulbs with the correct 1034 bulbs. Bob

              Re: C1 1957 flasher problem

I just purchased a ZN232 and installed it and got 2 flashes on the left side only. the signals work fine with a generic tugsol round flasher. Are the bulbs the problem? If so, I guess you have to change the 4 bulbs.

                Re: C1 1957 flasher problem

Some flashers were intentionally designed to be independent of the lamp load they drive (used in hazard flasher applications where there's a variable number of lamps to flash). Other flashers were intentionally designed to be used in turn signal applications where the number and type of lamp to be blinked was known.

In these applications, designers WANTED the blink rate to change noticeably (blink fast or not blink at all) when the branch circuit current differed from expected. That alterted the driver to go find/fix a lamp problem.

What others have told you is the ZN-232 was designed to drive TWO number 1034 lamp loads. If you substitute lamps (1157 is NOT a 1034), all bets on operation are off... Also, when you randomly grab another flasher to 'test' the circuit, you could well be pulling a hazard flasher unit (like a '552) that'll make the lamps blink regardless of number/style.

Bottom line, get the right peg(s) in the right hole(s) and it should work, mon!

Thanks everybody for your reponses. I substituted a 552 flasher and everything works nornally with 1157 bulbs. I like the briter bulbs for greater visibility.

Cool! That's certainly an EXCELLENT fix for a driver application. We usually encounter folks who want the full factory concours treatment (pass judging scrutiny including performance verification). Really good judges will detect the roughly 20% increase in lamp brilliance and the interior guys won't miss the 552 flasher swap. But, you're definately better off from an actual on-road useage viewpoint the way you've gone!

Thanks Jack, I have owned a Corvette since 1971. For me ,it was transportation to school , dates, and work. I also respect the other side of the hobby. I am also interested in authenticity.
