    Rear Blower Duct

Is there any type of sealer or a gasket at the rear blower duct where is
sits in the hole in the body to exit in the wheel well? The duct that is
in there now has some type of silicone caulk on it.
    Thanks,
    Karl

Karl -- Can't answer directly (my '65 coupe doesn't have the rear blower) but looking at '65 AIM UPC 1, sheet D9, it appears that the forward end of the duct just slides into the hole in the "duct assy., rear". If there was a sealant for the forward duct end, it would have been specified on the list of materials.

Here's another indirect reference to '64-65 mod's in that area that might offer clues. Involves cutting the duct to allow installation of inner wheelwell housings for large tires.

You find out something new every day...I thought all '64 and '65 coupes had the rear blower.

What percentage of '65s had it?

Thomas -- In '65, out of 8186 coupes, 8145 had the rear compartment exhaust blower; the other 41 had the 36.5 gal tank, with the large fender caps, and I suppose that GM decided it just wasn't worth it to modify the blower assy. (and reduce its efficiency, as mentioned in the above attachment). Besides, they could save some $$$.

            Thanks, sounds logical.

Logic also tells me that the "big tank" '64s would not have the rear blower either.

Did the one's without the blower have the grill work behind the doors?
If so, they must have been dummies???

              Correct

Yes, still had the pot-metal (external) grilles; probably for appearance and (in the case of the driver side, because they still used the same roof duct as those with the blower [see AIM UPC 1, sheet B11] -- the passenger side is dummy, anyway). The driver side still uses the drain hose [for rain and car wash]. The main difference is the block-off plate where the rear blower duct would normally enter the roof duct. UPC N03 sheet 2; I attach pic of mine -- it's a real sloppy job "called filler- roof panel vent hole".

1st pic is of the filler itself (NOS, but not mine); the 2nd is the one originally installed on my car -- factory didn't even get paint in the crevice; you can also see the drain.
