    1971 sun visor supports

    Hi

I am refitting my my sun visors to my 71 coupe and I have the original and reproduction support brackets to insert in each side.

The originals make the visors too stiff and have lots of wear marks that cause them to not work well so i will use the reproductions...however.

My question relates to the difference in bracket to be used inner or outer on each visor.

If I put the support brackets next to each other there seems to be different offsets (or distance from mount point).

Which side should have the longer offset support bracket ??

Nearest the mirror or nearest the A Pillar ?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Craig

    Hi Craig:

I just went out and looked at my 71. If I understand your question correctly, the support nearest the mirror has the bigger offset.

      Thanks Tom

Appreciate you having a look and thats exactly what I needed to know.

That probably makes sense as it would position the visor more paralleled to the driver.

I just worked on a 76 and each original bracket was stamped on the end near the mounting hole. The stamps were RO, RI and LO and LI. It may be faint, but each was identified. This made it easy to determine which one went to each end.

I will go and pull out the originals and have a look - Thanks

Have looked at my originals under a strong magnifying glass and cant find any L or R inscriptions.

            1971 may have been different.

              Hi Craig,
I was curious so took a look at my 71. I don't see any marking on the brackets either.
I concur that the longer off-set is on the inner location. It seems to match the curve in the windshield header so the visor can be straight in front of each occupant.
              Regards,
              Alan
