I have purchased Al Knoch leather seat covers, as advised on this forum. Now the next question that I have, is whether to buy new reproduction seat foam, or to reuse the original foam. The original seat foam is in perfect condition, with absolutely no sign of deterioration. I have read that you should use new foam, but after seeing some other reproduction parts, I am hesitant to use the repro foam. Thanks for any help.

Re: 1964 seat foam
When I did the seats on my 63 a couple of years ago I found that the new foam for the bottoms was too thick and dense . I took them back apart and put the origonal foam back in .
Can't remember where I bought it.

Michael,
your seats will turn out nicer using your old foam.
New foam is not made from the same density foam. Bob- Top

Re: 1964 seat foam
Michael,
I did the seats for my 65 over about 6 years ago and used new foam. My original foam was at the point of dusting and looking nasty.
I agree with the previous response, if your foam looks good use it, my seats are too thick and too stiff.
If there is a repro foam out there that is correct maybe someone can share with both of us.

Re: 1964 seat foam
I had my seat restored last year. I replace the foam and burlap as my seats had a lot of deterioration. My seat vinyl covers and foam were from Corvette America, the burlap was Al Knox. Eastern Corvette did the installation and it all looks great. Not sure if they had any issues with the form. I will ask them tomorrow when we have a meeting. Just my experience. I would be concern that the old foam might not hold up and replacing it later would be difficult.- Top

Re: 1964 seat foam
I used the complete AK seats kits including the new foam. The foam was the only disappointing item. It was a different material and seemed like it would tear easily. During the install you have to poke some holes in it and they seem like they would just keeping getting bigger. I used it anyway and the install looks very good and got full credit at last years Northwest regional. But the seats are a bit hard feeling. The AK vinyl is also thicker than stock so that also gives the seat a harder feel. The AK install video says the thicker material makes a better looking install but who knows. I saved my old foam and might someday put it back. I have read others say to have your old foam steamed?- Top
