Re: 63 Fuel Pump
Ron,
For 1963 the fuel pump part # ends with 4657 and that is what is stamped into the flange of the pump.- Top

Re: 63 Fuel Pump
Ron,
In my opinion to be totally correct you want a pump with the "AC" casting and a "4657" stamping on the flange. A pump with a "4657GF" would be dated July 1966 where "G" = July and "F" = 1966. The date codes began in 1965 based on my many years of AC fuel pump research.

Re: 63 Fuel Pump
All you want is the 4657 stamp, no other letters. The date is part of the casting, it is at the bottom of the hole above the outlet. The hash marks tell you the month.
Sorry, I need to disagree with the GF as a date.

Re: 63 Fuel Pump
Don't be sorry as you are certainly entitled to your OPINION but I have to TOTALLY disagree with you about the "GF" as a date code on my NOS AC "4657GF" (July 1966) fuel pump with the casting number "66" in the bottom hole above the outlet with 6 "hash marks" which would make the casting date June 1966.
There was also a NOS AC "4657KE" (Nov. 1965) fuel pump with a "65" casting and 9 "hash marks" (Sept. 1965).
And then there is the very original 1966 327 engine (stamped "T0521HAR", May 21, 1966) with a casting date "E186" (May 18, 1966) and casting # 3858180 that I bought many years ago with a "4657EF" (May 1966) AC fuel pump with a "66" casting and 4 "hash marks" (April 1966).
There is more but I don't want to bore everyone with all the other examples in my research of the last 30 years. To some I guess my date code research is just a coincidence so my suggestion is to believe what you want.

Re: 63 Fuel Pump
Finding a NOS AC fuel pump stamped "4657" with the "AC" casting and the correct date code casting in the bottom hole is almost impossible but I'm sure you can find a correct rebuilt "4657" pump from one of the "Corvette Sharks" but if you ask them for one with a "63" casting in the bottom hole they might think that you are crazy. Most "Corvette Sharks" do not think that fuel pumps are date coded because it is bad for business.

Re: 63 Fuel Pump
John, I read the replies and was expecting to see someone say that the 63 pump is all on its own. Typical later style service replacements are incorrect. We nickname those pumps "frog pads".
Typically if you see the 4657 with a suffix after it then that pump would not be a 63 pump. It would be a frogpad pump.
What are "frogpads" you say. When the pump is installed and you are looking down at it all the bosses on a 63 pump are round. The same configuration. But the later style 4657's have a couple of flat pads instead of all round bosses for the screws to poke up thru.
Meanwhile I wouldn't buy a rebuilt one from anyone unless the individual can verify that the pump is rebuild for ethanol.
My Feb 63 FI engine has a NOS Nov 62 pump. But it went on at the 11th hour while the engine was hanging from a cherry picker as I didn't know about the fake pumps and had a frog pad pump on my engine.
A 66 300 HP could use a 4657 FF or 4657?? on it.
Once in a while you will spot a 63 pump on ebay. Good luck, JDLast edited by John D.; February 22, 2011, 06:03 PM.- Top

Re: 63 Fuel Pump
I have two fuel pumps - both with the correct AC casting and both with the correct #4657 stamped on the flange. Neither has a suffix code and yet one is a normal fuel pump and the other has the "frog pad" configuration.

Re: 63 Fuel Pump
Doug,
Could you look to see if there is a 2-digit year code and "hash marks" at the bottom of the hole above the outlet in each of your pumps stamped "4657"? I have never seen a 63 "4657" pump. I also have never heard of the term "frog pads" when talking about fuel pumps. I believe that all my remaining "4657" pumps must have "frog pads" because I do not have any of these pumps with a "62" or "63" year code. I guess you learn something every day, thanks for your comments, John.

See July 7 or 27, 2007. Look for my post on 63 pumps David. I first learned about the frog pad pumps from Robert Jorjorian around 2005. When I go to the shows I quietly look down at the pumps on the 63's and the majority of the cars have the wrong pump. Why buy wrong when it's just as easy to buy the right part I say.

Re: 63 Fuel Pump
so is the frog pad configuration correct for 64-67 cars, and only the 63's have all round bosses?- Top

Re: 63 Fuel Pump
David/John,
Here is a frog pad pump I picked up in the 90s. Only 4567 stamping with 5/63 body date and 4/63 bottom cover. John will say parts were changed however I think you'll find later 63 pumps had frog pads. Earlier 63 pumps without frog pads tend to have a smaller size font .100" vs .125" as shown in picture. I also saw a boxed NOS 64 pump .125" font size and no letters. Plenty of 65/66 pumps out there with letters.
Thanks
