    Luggage Stop

I was reading the recent thread about how to replace a "luggage stop" on a C2 and it caused me to wonder just what this is and where it goes. I found a photo of one in a Corvette Central catelogue and it looks like it mounts to the vertical panel right behind the seats and in front of the rear access panel. I pulled up the carpet on my 66 coupe and there is nothing there but fiberglass and nothing to indicate there was ever anything riveted in to it. It doesn't surprise me anymore to discover that things are "MIA" on my car, but am I even looking in the right place? Anyone have a photo of how a correctly installed one?

It sounds as if this piece is somewhat important to the structural integrity of the body. Is that right?

    Thanks.

    Re: Luggage Stop

    Steven,
someone will certainly correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it IS the vertical panel right behind the seats, and in front of the rear access board.
There isn't anything more to it.

      Steven -

The steel luggage stop panel is riveted to the underbody along the bottom and at the ends on a coupe, and on a convertible it's welded to gussets from the B-pillars at the ends. It prevents "sag" of the floor pan, and stiffens the body in torsion. Photo below someone posted shows what it looks like in a coupe.

Thanks Don and John. That's just what I'm looking for. I figured it went on the backside of the panel (i.e. where the "luggage" would be). Glad I asked.
