    Re: Rally Wheel identification

Hi Dale...I was looking at this two year old post while trying to understanding the coding on 1970 rims. I have owned our '70 built March 23rd since 1972 and always thought the spare with a Firestone Wide Oval was the original rim and tire. Wrong. The rim code K 1 0 8 26 AZ indicates 8/26/1970. Additionally, it's black on both sides indicating it is a service replacement. I do know the car was hit on the right rear fender before I purchased it and speculate the rim was damaged and replaced by the original owner. I believe the tire to be original and remounted on the new rim.

I'm nearing completion of a three year frame off restoration and would like to know if you still have the the 2/5/1970 rim. Sorry for all the detail. Thanks...Clark

      Re: Rally Wheel identification

Clark, I am sorry but I sold those rims shortly after my original post. I put my original wheels and hubcaps back on my car. There was someone in Kansas or somewhere rebuilding a car that the dates matched. Good luck on finding wheels. I know how difficult it can be. I needed a choke housing for my '64 and its a rare part because my choke housing on fit 2 models of AFB carbs. Dale

Thanks Dale...I knew it was a long shot. Guess I'll swap out one of the original ground wheels for the spare (I didn't say that, did I?) I have a friend that works on Corvettes who owns a '64 and has accumulated many extra parts over the years. If you will provide more details about the choke housing, I'll see if he can assist...Clark

Clark, Sorry I don't still have the wheels. I do apreciate you asking about the choke housing. I did find one, but it has some of the same issues as my original. I am hoping that it will work. It seems like there may be a common issues with the holes that hold the bakelight housing with the metal ring into the housing. There are three "post" on the housing that are threaded and hold the bakelight choke. There are the screws that you used to adjust the choke. These post are very thin on the inside amd both of the housing I have are split. My housing is unique to a 3720 and 3721 AFB. I will post a separate item and see what everyone else has experience. Thanks for your help.
