I have always been interested in tackling an FI rebuild. What are the best manuals I can get to start reading? Thanks!

Re: Best Fuel Injection Rebuild Manual
Larry, A start would be the GM Corvette Servicing Guide (ST-12) and Chassis Service Operations (58-60 for R.P.O. Equipment), both are for older units. I believe they are available at the NCRS store. I also have an old Chiltons that had some different procedures. Good luck, Don H.- Top

Re: Best Fuel Injection Rebuild Manual
Larry, while I've never tackled a FI rebuild, I do have a copy of an old "Rochester Fuel Injection Service Manual" from Rochester Products that would probably give you just enough information to really screw it up. (just half kidding) Mine's not for sale, but I'd guess somebody sells them.Mike

Re: Best Fuel Injection Rebuild Manual
I have a 33 page document "Rochester Fuel Injection" put out by Rochester Products Division-General Motors Corp. Rochester, New York.
It is pretty comprehensive with some repair procedures, specs. and pictures.
They might be available from one of the fI guys such as John DeGregory.
I have attached a few pictures from this document.
Also, Floyd Clymers book Corvette V8 Complete Owners Handbook has 90 pages on FI repair and tuning. Lots of details.
Contact me if you need any other info.- Top

Re: Best Fuel Injection Rebuild Manual
Larry, I found that I have two of the Rochester Manuals, one is for 63 and one is from C1 era. They both look like copies. I have no use for the C1, so if that's what you're looking for, PM me with your address and I'll send it to you.Mike

Re: Best Fuel Injection Rebuild Manual
If you are the do it yourself type and inclined to try an FI rebuild, I will put it out there that Jerry Bramlett will let you come down to his place and he will show you how to do a rebuild for a reasonable fee (like 1800 or something). the benefit of this is that you get his years of experience in guiding you thru the process, identifying worn, broken or missing parts, etc. You also get the use of his tools and the knowledge that it has been done correctly.- Top

Re: Best Fuel Injection Rebuild Manual
I don't, but I actually have two types. One is for the C1's entitled "Chevrolet Fuel Injection Shop Manual" and has 29 pages and was dated Nov. of '56. The other is for C2's and is entitled "Rochester Fuel Injection Service Manual" and has 23 pages and no date. It is a reprint. I think both of these are pretty easily obtained.

Re: Best Fuel Injection Rebuild Manual
Hi Larry, By the looks of your photo I see you are a solid axle guy so I assume that's the type FI you are interested in rebuilding yourself. Thats wonderful you know as most of the customers I have don't know squat about what makes one tick.
You got some really good suggestions above.
My all time favorite FI manual is not by itself by in the Corvette Restoration guy aka St12 manual which was mentioned. I believe you said you own it. That's all you really need.
Say you own a 63 to 65 FI. Well the ST 12 manual FI section is a big help to you also. The ST12 manual is the ONLY manual that shows you anything about rebuilding the hi-pressure gear pump. The 63 manual is my least favorite of all even though I am a 63 nut because the FI section was written using a prototype sand cast unit featuring a poc wobble pump. GM and RP never updated future manuals such as the 64 and 65 supplement on FIs or the FI hi-pressure pumps.
Want to learn about FI's. Read and reread the theory. Read the trouble shooting section. If you don't understand the theory and a person is just interested in turning the screwdriver then you won't make it.
Now for a story. When I was 18 or 19 I went to a GM training center and took the United Delco courses. One of them was for fuel injection. My instructor was Paul Glagola from Butler, PA. When I took the big test I flunked it. Paul said to the entire class. JD back there flunked the test (it was all one theory) as he doesn't know jack XXXX about theory. JD didn't listen to me at all as he just wanted to learn how to turn the screwdriver. Well I was totallly crushed and tears were running down my face. I took the class over and passed the next time.
So to recap study the theory. Say I have a weird problem that has me stumped. I will lay down on the couch and read the FI theory section of the ST12 or the 63 manual and typically I can solve my problem provided bubba before me has butchered things up. Good luck, JohnLast edited by John D.; February 22, 2011, 06:17 PM.- Top
