What color should the underside of the decklid, and top of gas tank cover be in a 57?

I have looked through the 56-57 NCRS Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide, but can't seem to find what I am looking for.

The closest I get is, the package compartment should be the same color as the exterior of Corvette.

Can someone please post a picture or tell me exactly what each color should be under the deck-lid? .... or simply show me exactly where to find the information I seek in the many NCRS books and guides that I have.

p.s. My Corvette is Venetian Red, with Shoreline Beige Interior, Top and Coves.

    Thanks,
    Jacob

Interesting. BAck in 53-54 they would have been interior color.

The underside of the top compartment lid and the top compartment area should be beige (trunk would be the same), and the interior of the glove box between the seats would be red.

So now I am still confused as I have conflicting answers from you guys. John, you have been correct with everything I have ever asked you.. but from what I make of # 15 in the interior section in the judging guide the underside of the decklid would be painted exterior color. It actually states and I quote " Seat Separator and interior of package compartment are painted exterior body color, not contrasting interior color."

I guess the questions should be,

            1. Is the package compartment the area under the decklid and on top of the gas tank cover?
            2. Where do I find this information in my Judging Manual or other NCRS Guides?

            Thanks,
            Jacob

              Jacob,

5th edition 56-7 JM Interior Section 15 Top Cover & Seat Separator Moldings; "top cover interior is painted interior trim color".

Package compartment is the "glove box". Underneath of deck lid is the convertible top compartment. As John said, the glove box (interior and exterior) should be body color but the underside of the deck lid should be interior color, trunk too.

The convention of painting the underside of the deck lid, convertible top compartment and trunk the same as the interior color started way back in 53. Very common to see and understand.

Don't let the Judging Guidelines confuse you. John knows his stuff!!

                  Jacob -

The "seat separator and package compartment" is the glove box and lid between the seats; the lid and the interior of the box is exterior color.

Under the "Top Cover & Seat Separator Moldings" heading on page 23, the last sentence says "Top cover interior is painted interior trim color"; the "top cover" is the top compartment lid, shown in the open position in the photo in my earlier post.

The trunk area is treated the same way - on page 26, under the "Trunk Color & Paint Application" heading, the first sentence says "Trunk compartment interior area and underside of trunk lid paint color should match interior trim color with a semi-gloss finish". The trunk area should look like the photo below (lighting makes the trunk interior look white, but it's beige, like the underside of the trunk lid).

                    Thanks a ton everyone!!!

I know John is ALWAYS right, that's why I was so boggled...

I am using the 4th edition of the 56-57 JM, that's how long I have been restoring this Corvette, over 5 years!

So, what color should the fiberglass be directly behind the seats that goes up to the tank cover, I am guessing Beige as well....

                    thanks again guys!

My error, I was thinking of the "Glove Box". John Hinckley is correct. They should be the interior color, either beige or red.

That's correct - it should be beige.

Seems in the Nol. Adams book they talk about 58 on up as finding cars having all these as body color, if that is the case how can they be judged as other wise if no one around now actually built these cars? Hmmm. Brad.

While I didn't build those cars, I was around to lust after them. In '58, you had a significant design change, including dual headlights and all that chrome. One way to offset some of the added cost would be to make them body color. they could be painted with the rest of the body without any masking or the added operation of spraying a second color.
