    One less Corvette--and owner

There used to be 32 Corvette owners in the congregation that I pastor. Now it's 31. John, about 9PM last night, in the car by himself, (no alcohol) found a tree with his 2004? Z06.
These cars can be scary. He leaves a wife and two daughters, 14 and 8. Be careful. Be smart. This hobby really isn't about the cars--it's about the people that the cars bring together.

Always a tragedy. However, as I've said before, there is such a thing as having too much power in a Corvette both for the car as well as the driver. Having the power available can be just too much of a temptation for folks to use it and that can be deadly. Of course, such accidents can happen in any car but I believe that in a lot of cases with Corvettes, when things like this happen the root cause is less-than-judicious use of the performance capabilities of the car.

The tires in the C5/6 cars have next to zero traction when it is <40* That lack of traction can come as a big surprise if the last time you had the car out was more moderate temperatures. As Rev. Mike says -- Let's be careful out there.

i lost a best friend exactly a year ago under the same kind of conditions.no tree involved but hit a snow bank and flipped several times.different kind of car though. i keep having to remind myself that these cars are just paint, metal and plastic. they can be repaired or replaced but loved ones cannot. so please, everyone enjoy your cars but be safe.
my thoughts and prayers to his family.

I've said it before and I'll say it again;the Corvette of today is designed for perfect summer driving only ,and should come with a warning label. One day some enterprising law team will sue GM over a lose like this.My condolences go out to the family.

my question would be,"was he wearing his seat belt" because these new cars are very safe in a crash if you are belted in. seems like every week i see in the local paper were the victim was not wearing their seat belt. also NEVER turn off the traction control and or active handling.

Very tragic, I'm sorry to hear about the loss, especially with children that young.
