am having trouble understanding the functioning of this horn relay. the relay is energized at all times and this one gets too hot to touch after a couple of minutes of connecting the battery cut-off switch. i've analized the wiring diagrams for all the c-1's and it appears to me they are all energized when the battery is hooked up, whether the ignition switch is in the off or run modes. i don't recall the relays on our other c-1's getting too hot to touch when their batteries are connected. perhaps i shouldn't have slept thru those physics classes in high school and college. any help appreciated. mike

Re: c-1 horn relay
Mike,
I think you will find the tan wire that goes back to the horn button in the column is grounded and pulling in the horn relay. It ain't suppose to until you tap the horn button.
The relay should not be energized unless the horn button is depressed. There is 12volts present at the horn relay at all times and just waiting for that tan wire to be pulled to ground.
When the relay is energized the horns should be blasting away.
