Anyone had any luck or experience requesting a title search these days in the state of Maryland? How far back do their records go?? Is there a link to the form needed to request a title search?? I know that most states will not entertian the idea with all the privacy laws these days, yet I have had some luck in states such as PA. and Wisconsin.

Re: Maryland Title Search
Hello John,
I just learned that my '69 Convertible was originally sold in MD, through a shipping data report. After doing a bit of research on title searching, it seems the MD DMV is bound by the same privacy law implications as those in other states.
Have you had luck in the mean time and would you be willing to share your method if you've been successful? Also, where was your car originaly sold? Mine was shipped to Unger Motors in Harwood, MD. As far as I can tell, they're no longer around.
Thanks!

Re: Maryland Title Search
Hi Rich, I had the same issues with the privacy laws, although I just had a breaktrough with another 1970 Corvette I own that I had titles going back to 1979 in Colorado. I recently found a website where you can do a Multi-State Vehicle History Report http://www.nmvtis.gov/nmvtis_vehiclehistory.html . I did a search with my VIN# and came up with another title that was issued in the state of Nebraska in 1978. The loophole in the privacy laws/Uniform Motor Vehicle Records Disclosure Act that all states must abide by is the following statement. Exempted uses permitted under the Uniform Motor Vehicle Records Disclosure Act are many, but this one worked for me. Use by a Private detective, plain clothes investigator, or private investigative agency licenced under Stat. 71-3201. So I ended up calling a PI in the state of Nebraska and to my luck he was a classic car guy too. He has quite a collection including a 57 Chevy etc... He went to the local DMV and was able to access the microfiche and I had the information the next day on my email. It did cost me about $250.00 for his time but well worth it!! I am not sure if it will work in all states, yet I have a 1966 that was sold originally out of Sausman Chevrolet in Lemoyne, PA. that he thinks he can get me information for also. I am keeping my fingers crossed. My advise would be to contact some Private investigators in the state of Maryland and see what they can find out for you!! Best of luck!! My email is johnny.mac@att.net . Send me an email and I would be happy to forward you his information.- Top

Re: Maryland Title Search
There must be some way to do it. Corvette Mike from California contacted me 4 years ago about the history of a Corvette I bought in 1976 in Maryland and said he got my name from the original owner who bought it in 1969. It came from Rosenthal Chevrolet in Arlington Va but was registered in MD to the original owner.- Top
