68 Seat Threads and new seat covers

My 68 convertible has G13 build date, STD black vinyl interior. I bought an entire library of NCRS books and they are great, especially the judging manual, but it doesn't address whether or not there is a white thread showing on the original seats or if thread too is black or whatever color of interior is.

Next: If anyone has experience with the Corvette America or similar new seat covers, do they have an exposed thread and are the seats 100% correct?

    Thank You!

Gary, I know that in the 70-72 JM says the threads on the door panels, console, dash pads, say the threads were the color of the interior, I would bet that the seats were the same.,if you have white thread exposed it may have been exposed to the sun and got bleached over the years.

I used corvette america seat covers on my 72 , I thought they were just as the factory. (they were vinyl covers)

I believe the seat cover threads are the same color as the interior color. I have seen new aftermarket seat covers with white thread used instead of the color of the seat cover itself.

I agree with Edward's assessment. I have never seen white threads. We have seen faded stitching on the map pocket.

Attached is my seats March 8th 68 STD blk. e threads are white but I cannot say if the seats are original-sure seem to be though.
Unless otherwise noted, I plan to have white threads per what is in the car now.

Patrick, I would bet that through the years repro or not the threads they used where a cotton thread and didn't hold up well to a number of things like the chemicals used to clean the seats and sun light.

The real tell would be is look at the covers when removed, sometimes there is material that is tucked under the cushions.

<<when removed, sometimes there is material that is tucked under the cushions>> Excellent idea. Like researching vintage wood or tile flooring - look in the closets!

Just wanted to let you know that I had the seats out and checked this weekend. I looked under the seats and found some black thread.

Amazing that every stitch on the visible surfaces are bleached white, but per your advice, they were once black.

                Thanks!
