    Using Wenol Metal Polish

I have always heard praise for this product. I noticed it says "not for use on plated metal." Would it actually do harm on chromed parts?

There are 2 types of Wenoll out there. The pink and the white. You did not say which one you were referring to, but the white compound that comes in a blue tube is specifically made for use on chrome. It gives a very good shine. I have also used the pink which comes in a red tube on copper, brass, aluminum and stainless with good results. I never tried it on chrome. Hope this helps.

I did know there were two types and I purchased the red tube. I did not read the label before purchase. Thanks for the info.

Bob, do you happen to know how the two types of Wenoll compares to either Flitz, or Semichrome metal polish?

I have personally found Flitz to work very, very well on stainless or chrome plated steel, if one is not needing an abasive polish.
I use Simichrome on tougher jobs...

        Thanks for any comments.

I love semi-chrome and never dull, both work great for me.

I like the Wenol in the blue tube for chrome, stainless and aluminum that does not need any scratches removed. Semichrome works best on scratches. I think the Wenol gives more luster or brighter shine and will follow Semichrome up with a dose of Wenol when I have sratches to remove.

I think most of us have learned the hard way that the actual chromuim layer on a chrome finish is just microns think. It is the final coating in a series of other platings of copper an nickel. It gives a chromed surface its signatue blueish luster. It is very easy to polish through if you have any abrasive qualities to the product you are using. If you polish through, then you will have a spot that looks a different color than the rest and really can't be fixed without re-chroming the whole piece. This is why you cant really polish scratches out of chrome. Don't ask me how I know.

Thanks, Jeff, somebody finally got it right. I learned this with my first Harley.

You do not polish chrome, you clean chrome. The scratches are the problem, and they will eventually appear over time if you use polish.
