NCRS National Convention Activites not to be missed

    2011 Great Lakes National Update

As we get closer to the event the pace of activities rises dramatically. Most of our activities are in place and our teams are working frantically to optimize your enjoyment. We have added a new technical seminar “The NCRS Technical Discusion Board & Judging points Tracking”presented by : Rob Musquetier, John Waggoner and Gary Chesnut on Wednesday, July 20, 3:00 – 5:00 PM.

Our Wednesday Night Dinner Cruise on the Yacht Ovation is one of our highlight activities. This three hour cruise on the Detroit River will feature a truly opulent setting on this three story, 150 foot yacht. There will be an open bar for the entire cruise with premium adult beverages and a truly sumptuous dinner, all included in your reservation price. There will be music for dancing for those so inclined. As our yacht travels south around Belle Isle and a return trip through Canadian waters, you will be treated to a view of the area’s landmarks from the truly unique perspective of the river view. We are leaving no detail un-attended to make this a most memorable night out for you and your spouse. You will be pampered and coddled from when our land yachts pick you up at the Host Hotel until they return you there after the cruise. Come hungry and refreshed to take full advantage of the opportunity to dine and dance the night away while enjoying the Detroit skyline. Please reserve early as we anticipate this Cruise will sell out very early.

On Thursday night we will have another unique adventure, the General Motors Heritage Center. Prepare yourself for a most memorable evening designed to simultaneously satisfy all of your senses. You’ll be allowed to stroll among the “rolling sculpture” created by General Motors over its rich 100 + year history, while sampling the finest cuisine catered by John Forte and his staff. In addition to the wide variety of vehicles on display, there is a treasure trove of advertising and promotional material, vintage neon signage and an engine display that shows the evolution of the modern internal combustion engine. Specific displays are dedicated to each of the vehicle divisions, including a special display dedicated to our favorite marquee—the Corvette. Along with the elegant food service stations will be open bars to keep you refreshed as you examine this exquisite collection. Our host will be Greg Wallace, the Heritage Center Manager and fellow NCRS member. He will be pulling all the stops to make sure that everyone has a most enjoyable and memorable evening.

Friday evening join your fellow NCRS members at the Suburban Collection Center for the Awards Banquet. For many, this is the rightful recognition of their hard work and determination to have their car judged to be among the best of the Corvette family.

Saturday morning brings the convention to conclusion with one last fabulous event – The GM Milford Test Track. We’ll begin the day with an informal breakfast at Bakers’ Restaurant in Milford, where we’ll assemble for an escorted Police Tour to the Milford Proving Grounds. At the Proving Grounds you’ll be allowed to drive your Corvette on the actual test and development roads; you’ll be allowed to “experience” all of the roads that are judged suitable for restored Corvette. Don’t worry, we’ll avoid the Belgian blocks, unpaved surfaces or chassis twist surfaces, but you will experience the Banked Oval, Seven Sisters, North-South Straightaway, the “Lutz Ring etc. etc.. While there, we’ll be staging each for individual photographs (bring your smiles) as well as a group shot of all the cars on the High Speed Banked Oval track. We plan to double the number of Corvettes pictured in the ’08 Regional Convention commemorative photo.

While these are the highlight events, every day is packed full of tours, seminars, shopping, dining and most important – fabulous Corvettes. Come well rested as there won’t be much time when something very interesting is going on. We of the Michigan Chapter guarantee it.
