How to bench test 1119515 Volt Reg?

Can I bench test a voltage regulator to see if it is functional? If so, how would I go about it?

    Regulator is a 1119515 with a capacitor.

    Thanks!

This how I do it, make a jumper wire to power terminal 2 + 3, ground your power supply to the body of the regulator, make another wire with a inline light bulb, connect it to the field terminal and the body of the regulator for a ground, using a power supply with a voltage gauge, turn the power on, the light hooked to the jumper will be off, turn the voltage up until the light is lit that will be aprox 1.5 - 3 volts, keep turning the voltage up until the light goes out 12.5 to 13.5 volts. you adjust the regulator by turning the screw on the backside of the coil , the coil on the left is for the low voltage start and the one on the right is the high voltage kick off, Im sure there other ways of doing this and there are better words used to discribe how to test a voltage regulator, this works for me ...........Good luck John

      Thanks John,
So my next question is 1.5 - 3v and 12.5 - 13.5 my voltage targets that I should be dialing in (if needed) for low voltage start and high voltage kick-off? (BTW Alternator is 1100693 37A)

      Many thanks,
      Pat

I go down to my local auto electric shop where they have an exercise box (built for NAPA store use) that connects to any/all 12V electro-mechanical voltage regulators (a supporting drawer of wiring harness connectors).

The exercise box 'plays' the role of the host vehicle (battery and alternator) grading the regulator's turn-on/turn-off and dynamic regulation range. If a given regulator fails the test, the exercise box can be switched into its set-up mode to assist re-adjusting the internal solenoid point gap(s)...
