    C2-C3 shock mount

Is there an opinion of new afetrmarket shock mount quality? Mine a in bad shape and need replacement. I was browsing e-bay to see if there were any used ones availible and came accross these.

Is there more than one manufacturer? My dad always said "If is sounds too good to be true it probably is". These seem that way. Thanks!

Lynn, my opinion is these won't help you in a restoration, but they would be fine for a resto-mod...the tip off is in "precision machined" and the brightness of the plated finish.

I think "precision machined" must apply to the entire mount. Original mounts have a rough, forged surface on the part that is not machined...these are so slick, they must be fulled machined out of bar stock, heat treated, and plated.

      Tom,

Chuck's correct the originals are more of a "Pewter" color, no pun intended and they have the GM part number embossed on them.

Hope for an early spring, see you guys soon.

Don't forget there's two designs of these mounts; one for regular suspension and another for F40-F41, or equivalent C3.

These are the standards -- part #'s end in ...929 and 930. They have an angle that is not present, or less so, on the ones for HD suspension.

Bair's has new reproductions. Not certain if they have manufacturered them or bought them from someone else. I suspect that Paragon and LICS would also have them for sale.

Bair's and Paragon (Vintage) may also have good, used ones for sale. I would inquire.

Thanks to all. My real question was are there crap repro's out there, possibly these, or is there a difference between the one's posted and the reputable parts house repro's.

I get the judging thing and would prefer for one's that are origional with the casting number. Since the idea of two different shock mounts came up can someone give me the numbers? I can check those numbers against the numbers on mine. And by the way, the car is a '72 big block car.

I haven't had a chance to check my AIM and the parts houses only list one type. Do the reputable part houses have repro-type casting numbers?

              Lynn------

              The numbers are as follows:

              F-40/F-41/FE7----GM #3829265, left, and 3829266, right

              standard suspension---GM #3820929, left, and 3820930, right

Only the HD suspension pieces were available from GM for all 1963-82 Corvette applications since about the mid 70's until they were discontinued a few years ago.

The pieces available from GM for about the last 25 years had no part numbers embossed on them.

NONE of the reproduction pieces have the part numbers embossed on them and all of the reproduction pieces i have ever seen have been the configuration of the 3829265 and 3829266.
