I'm looking at two LT1's. I'm waiting on the inspection reports but I think they will be on a par with each other given the work that will need to be done. The coupe is a 1972 and the convertible is a 1971. The asking price for the comvertible is $5000 more than the coupe. My qustion is over the long term is the convertible worth the 5k differential. I don't have a personal preference as to coupe vs convertible.

Re: General question on LT1 values
In my recent buying and selling, it seems the convertible is always higher, all else being equal. $5000 would seem to be a reasonable differential, and I would suspect this will only increase as time goes on. Most all older cars show the convertible to be more valuable on the market as convertibles were much more rare than coupes, however the "Vettes made more convertibles in those days, so not sure if that will effect the values in the distant future. The '71 LT1 was also a stronger engine than '72, so that is also more desireable. However, all that said, it's going to be your car so you have to be the happy with which ever you get. Good luck.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

That would be the high compression 70 LT-1 was stronger than the identical lower compression 71-72 LT-1s.- Top

Re: General question on LT1 values
Thanks to everyone who responded. Neither car worked out. The coupe was more than I cared to take on at this time in terms of restoration and we couldn't arrive at a reasonable price on the convertible.
