    EGR valve

    I removed an EGR valve from an intake manifold dated B 3 8 = February 3, 1978 casting number 346249, which was used from 1975 - 1978 L48 350s.

My question is the the numbers on the EGR valve. The top number is HK7044598 and under that is 33373. Is the 33373 the date?
This appears to be the correct EGR valve for the year, but I cannot verify the casting number.

Also looking for an alternator with casting # 1100950 42amp dated between Sept 10, 1973 - Oct 20, 1973. Preferred it not to be restored, just working.

...I didn't have any luck either on that EGR part #, but if that is the original EGR valve to a '78 Corvette, I believe that date is read 333rd day of 1977 3rd shift, if I'm remembering correctly.

Your memory is still working for you and that would be the interpretation of the date code. The number does not look correct. Here's an L82 EGR valve off a 3,000 mileage Pace Car. What I typically expect is the 1705 number sequence at front end of the part number series. You'll also note that both have the HK or ON stamped which is the broadcast code. I can check my 78 silver car for its EGR broadcast code later.

On a 1978 L-82 Automatic, will the EGR Valve hold vacuum? I had read somewhere the Valve is supposed to "leak vacuum" mine does. Is this correct?

The 1977-78 period was the "change-over" period for the 7 digit Delco-Rochester part number to the 8 digit. Some 1977 models used original valves with a 7 digit part number and some used an 8 digit part number. The same was true for original 1978 valves. However, I can find no record of the 7 digit part number of the valve in the original post of this thread. Obviously, it existed and, most likely, it is an original valve but not one that I can find any record of.
