Hey Guys,
Just thought I would take a couple of minutes to "talk up", and promote the 2011 NCRS GLN in Novi. After our committee meeting on Monday evening a few things came up and I thought I would take this opportunity to help keep everyone up to date. Looks like registrations are moving along at a good pace, but it did appear that room reservations were exceeding event registration as of Monday. I would suggest in the best interest of everyone to register for the convention as soon as possible for a variety of reasons, one being the limited amount of space at a couple of the planned activities.
The GM Performance Build Center, and the GM Wind Tunnel being VERY limited. If you are planning on attending either one of these, you need to register as soon as possible. At this time it MAY be possible to get another group set up for these, but the sooner we know the better. It may not be possible the later into the game we get.
Another of what I am going to call a MUST ATTEND event is the Ovation Yacht Tour and Banquet. While not as limited as the events mentioned above, it does have a capacity of 300 persons. This is NOT just another boat cruise. This is a first class evening of food , fun, and drink (yes, it is open bar-beer, wine and liquor IS INCLUDED in the price of $110), and I am certain EVERYONE will be impressed with this cruise.
While space is not as much of an issue some of the other events planned are what I also consider as "MUST ATTEND". Anyone who has not been to the GM Heritage Center, will always be second guessing themselves if they do not take this in. It is truly gong to be another amazing evening of fun an cars (they still have ALL the good stuff, no matter what you have heard). The Chrysler Museum, and the "T-Plex" Piquette Tour are also places every car guy (even us Chevrolet fans) should want to attend. I personally spent 4 hours at the Piquette Plant, and only left because they were closing. I was told it averaged about 45 minutes. This is a fantastic look at the early days of the automobile industry, where Henry had a secret room for the designing of what was at the time a world class car for the masses. It is where ALL the early Model T's were built (1904-1909), and the assembly line concept was first tested. This was before the opening of the plant in Highland Park we all know as being the first assembly line. When this facility first was opened Mr. Ford was partners with the Dodge brothers, due to some financial matters they had going on between them. GOOD STUFF!!!!
Everyone who was at the Regional that got the chance to run the test track at Milford, knows this to be another MUST ATTEND. While making no promises that we will be able to run at the speeds achieved at the Regional (rumored to be in excess of 150 mph), I am certain it will be a fantastic opportunity.
We also have quite a list of "family excursions", such as:
Frankenmuth
Henry Ford/Greenfield Village
Yankee Air Museum
Edsel Ford House
Ann Arbor Art Fair (world class)
among other activities so there is certainly something for everyone.
Those of us who have been in the planning stages already for many months, truly hope and believe this WILL be the convention that all others are measured against for many years to come. All that being said, PLEASE register as soon as possible so you may get to do as many of these activities as possible, and we are able to provide a first class memorable experience for all.
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL IN NOVI !!!!!!!!
