    Jack
That A/C car is a real bear to find parts for. That bracket picture was as I found the car, the solinoid was replaced with a 1114421 which you can find but the 1114418 OEM is hard to find. Still looking for that darn screw to replace the bolt.

It would seem that way but that's not the way it is. The solenoid bracket used for Q-Jet equipped Corvettes was unique to Corvettes and was not used for other Chevrolet applications. The clamp (u-shaped piece) was used for some other applications, though, but it was not widely used.

Whoa... I've pulled the original solenoid ('418) off scrap yard Chevys and it was the Camaro guys who re-tooled the Holley Tri-power bracket. So, the basic idle stop system WAS used on other Chevy passenger cars.

It seems you're saying there's something 'special' about the QJets used on Corvette vs. those used on other Chevy cars????

Here are pix of both the '418 and '421 solenoids that I've picked up in the yards. Notice the '421 does NOT have the circular 'guard' around the plunger shaft that's shown in post earlier in this thread...

The solenoids were not unique to Corvettes. However, the solenoid BRACKETS were unique to Corvettes. For example, the bracket for Q-Jet-equipped Corvettes was GM #3940915 and that bracket was not used for any other Chevrolet model.

How were they different? I have no idea.

Why did they need to be different? I have no idea.

Is that the setup you are looking for? This is from my 68 BB with A/C. I think that bolt in the front of the picture should be a Phillips head screw.

              Thanks Dale,
I agree that the solenoid is not correct, but I have found a solenoid. It is the bracket I can't find, and I've never seen one before. Thanks for the pic!

                Jack,

There was a idle solenoid bracket on flee bay advertised by a restoration shop, either off a Camaro or Chevelle, I believe Camaro 2 bbl carb. After carefully studying it I recognized it had some characteristics of the Corvette one, ie the clamp that goes around the solenoid looked very familiar. Therefore I took 2 different brackets i had to Larry's automotive here in Sarasota along with my intake & carb for mock-up and the Corvette AIM drawing, $40 or $50 later they had cut, welded, ground and I have a bracket that "functions" and holds the solenoid like it should from the top carb bolt, and it works! I am not saying it is 100% undetectable but again with the air cleaner on it is undetectable and it beats the $1500 that the only bracket I found for sale was offered to me for.

If anybody wants a photo of my ingenuity let me know!

                Jimmy
