    Muncie 3-speed

I have a couple of questions. Could you get a Muncie 3-speed in a 1961 fuelie 315hp and what year did Muncie first introduce a 3-speed?
    Thanks

      Tom,
A friend of mine has a Muncie 3-speed and he thinks there was a passing reference to such a trannie in Noland Adams first book.

        Eugene -

All Corvette 3-speeds were Saginaw-built transmissions until 1969, when Muncie took over production of the (new) 1966-up fully-synchronized 3-speed, for other applications.

As mentioned, the 3spds were Saginaw trannys.
Up through 65, they WERE NOT synchronized in 1st gear.
Up through 62, MANY of the guts were easily interchanged (of the same ratio), but in 63-65, the Saginaw 3spds had gear teeth with completely different angles. This also included different spline angles on the shafts and syncro drum. Thus, NONE of the internals of a 55-62 and 63-65 Saginaw 3sp interchanges, UNLESS you swapped EVERYTHING, gears, shafts, syncro, reverse idler, etc.
