I am removing the after market side exhaust pipes to install underbody standard exhaust on my 69. I am trying to figure out if the rear bolt (with washers) can be removed without cutting the bolt off. I see in the AIM, that the "key hole" design which implies bolt and retainer were installed that way. I have been able to hammer the bolt and washers towards the rear, but not through the hole. Appreciate any experience and insight. Thanks.

Re: 69 Side Exhaust Bolt Removal Question
Hi Chris,
I'm not quite sure from your description whether your side exhaust were 69 style or something else.
The 69 style side-exhaust typically had a carriage bolt at that location and the head came out through the 'key-hole' in the frame.
Good Luck!

Re: 69 Side Exhaust Bolt Removal Question
Alan,
Thanks, you answered my question. The side exhaust appears to use the same mounting as the factory. It appeared in th AIM manual to use carriage bolts which are installed in the round hole and slid into the slot. The carriage bolts just turn when I wrench them. So I have been hammering the bolt/washers to move it to the "hole" to remove it. Its slow going, but will hopefully will work.
Thanks,
Chris- Top
