Re: Ethanol
Brad;
I have used Max Lead 2000 for many years now. It's a matter of my personal choice based on the experience I've had with it. In the 70's, when TEL was being cut back and eliminated from pump gas, I began having detonation and engine heat up problems, the lattery due in part to the things we did to correct for the detonation including retarding the timing and returning to a slow advance curve. My L-76 had always been a plug eater since new so that was also about the time a changed to an electronic ignition.
Once I began using the Max Lead I found I could get my performance back by again advancing the ignition timing and using a more aggressive advance curve. The engine runs cooler in traffic, in fact so well that I was also able to go back to a 180* thrermostat.
Again, it comes down to personal choices and experiences. It costs extra money, but for me it is money well spent to have my 63 run like it was designed to.
BTW, at the winter meet, I learned that Podell is on their last stock. Their supplier has stopped producing it and when their last case is gone - that's it. It has a long shelf life so I figure I have enough to see me through my life time. Then my son can worry about it.
