          Allen,
          Great information.
I remember passing the Tarrytown plant many times and seeing it from the TapenZee Bridge.
After moving to Ohio I had the opportunity to go through the Norwood Plant a number of times. Lots of guys around here worked there along with the plants in Dayton and Moraine.
Now all things of the past but great memories.

I went through the Van Nuys plant a couple of times, once in 1990 and again in 1992. I remember seeing painted on the side of one of the Camaros "Lunch at Sizzler. Psycho buys". Anyone here work at Norwood in 1967?

                Hi,
I remember going on tours through the GM plant in Baltimore during the mid-sixties. I recall seeing GTOs being built and being very interested since fellows that we knew were buying them in those 64-66 years.
We were really just kids but were treated well, I guess partly because we were actually potential customers.
As I remember the tours were in the early afternoon and you could just show up. If there was room left on the tour... off you went!
                Regards,
                Alan

Some neat info.....worked at a few of them and have visited some of the others.

It's weird to see a place where thousands of people once worked flat as a pancake with nothing going on....

Many a plant now vacant or torn down, GM and Ford both, Chrysler to a lesser extent as it is so small in comparison. Contrast that to China where a friend there counted no less that 46 different car manufacturers, some we have not even heard of yet.

p.s. This photo was amazing. I would think no fluids were installed before shipment on these Vegas, especially not brake fluid!

                        Re: G.M. Plant Histories

I spent 33 years working in plants just like those pictured.Four different plants and four different divisions. Two sold to other company's, one bulldozed, and one soon to be closed.
So many lost jobs. For every job in heavy manufacturing there are 6 to 8 outside support jobs. Our inequitable trade practices have caused this massive destruction of American jobs. It's called fair trade not free trade. We absorb the worlds products with little or no tariffs while the export of our products to other nations is stifled by the receiving nation. There is a tremendous demand for our products in other nations, but their governments find ways to restrict imports and protect their interest.NAFTA and CAFTA need review and revision to make them more equitable to our interest.
Building another Wal Mart is NOT job creation. This country needs to take immediate steps to encourage job creation in heavy manufacturing.

                            Hi,
I don't remember the vents in the trunk lids of the Vegas! Were they part of Astro-Ventilation?

Steve, you are right on, if you look at the wealth the US generated from the beginning of the industrial revolution into the 60's. Very incredible.

What has happened since has a model perfected that pulled that wealth out of the people's and the exact thing is/ has happened here.
