Which size Torque Thrusts?

I have a '65 and am looking to put Torque Thrust rims on it for daily driving. The tires I have are BFG Radial Goldlines 205/75R15. What is the right size rim to go with 15 x 5 or 6 or 7? I do not want to have any issues with body or frame contact. Any recommendations on where to purchase?

Phil -

Stick with 15x6, with stock offset; as I recall, many Torq-Thrust wheels won't clear the disc brake calipers - test-fit any wheel before you buy.

I was thinking of purchasing through one of the larger Corvette mail order suppliers to avoid fit & function issues. Will this avoid having to test fit?

I bought some for my 67 (15x6) from newstalgia wheel. No problems. http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/

I've had Torque Thrust wheels on my 66 since new.In my opinion they epitimize the look of a preformance Corvette. The 6 in. with positive offset and 205-75/15 tires should serve you well and create no clearance problems.
I bought a set of eight in. Torque Trusts at a local swap for my 71.Guess what, the spokes didn't clear the calipers.Valuable lesson here. All Torque Thrusts are not the same.

The early Torq Trust would not clear the disk brake calipers, so American Racing came up with the Torq Trust D. This was back in the sixties.

The current reproduction is called Torq Thrust D, but there are reports that they don't clear the disk brake calipers.

I have had American Racing Torque Thrust D wheels on a '63, '64, '65 and '67 Corvette without any trouble. I ordered two (2) sets of 4 both times from a local Goodyear Auto Service Center. The wheel nomenclature from the shipping container/box reads: Torque Thrust D, Style 105, Size 15" X 6", P.C.D: 5 X 120.65, Offset: +3.2MM. I mounted Goodyear P215/65R15 95T S1 Regatta tires on the rims and had no problems with fender/tire interference. Finally, all of the Corvettes were driver quality cars; and not intended for show and/or judging purposes.

TTD's 15x6 with the BFG 205/75/15 Goldlines will be just fine on your '65 with no issues of body/frame rub. American Racing would be a good start in looking where to buy.

Philip,
I have bought many sets of American Racing wheels and always talked to thier tech support befor buying. Also do a test fit of the wheel only for brake clearence. Once you put a tire on the wheel it's yours.
When you have them mounted be sure the shop uses stick on weights when they balance. Also specify that all the weights must be on the back of the wheel.

I have a set of American Racing Torque Thrust "D" 15x6" with Faulkin 215/65x15 tires for street driving on my '67. No rub or fitment issues. Got a set before they were made in China. Replaced the plastic caps with aluminum. They look and handle very well.......FWIW...............Paul....

Re: Which size Torque Thrusts?

Thank you all for your replies. In doing a little more research, I became aware that AR only lists two TT Ds in 15x6 with the difference being the bolt circle. So it appears there is only one available in this size for GM, without going to custom offsets. My fear was purchasing the "wrong" ones but it appears there is only one to be had.

Well since you guys are talking about Torque Thrusts, I was going to put a set of 17X7 front and 17x9 in rear on a 1978. Anyone see any problems with this combo?

I got a set a year ago for my '66 and the shop I bought from test fit them for me before I paid and they fit well and cleared the calipers. They were 15 X 6 with a 4 mm offset and I haven't had any issues with them.
