OK, time to confess. I just bought a nice, but neglected 62 in order to clean it up and then to sell it. I knew that it had a Chevelle 327 in it and a low horse tach. Sure it had two holes in the body below the side flags, but everybody hung FI emblems back in the day. Well today I talked to an old owner from the 70's and he said it was a FI, radio delete car when he bought it. It had been a drag car and blown it's driveline. Again, everybody has "an ex-fuelie." I should know something about these cars having had 3 FI 62's, two of which were big brake cars. An inspection revealed the windshield washer on the passenger side, holes for the heat shield, holes on the driver's side lip for the FI air cleaner, and no screw marks on the AC inlet opening where the block off plate goes on non-FI cars. Anything else I should look for? Now what do I do with this car? Sounds like it needs to be put back to it's FI configuration even with a replacement drive train. And I thought this purchase was going to be a simple in and out. Bill

Re: It's a Fuelie stupid
On the firewall there were 2 dimples for the tach cable. Non fuel cars use one (if memery serve me the right one) and FI uses the other (left one). It has to due with which side the tach drive is on on the distributor. Many cars oval out the whole so the dimple is no longer there. If it is there, it is concrete proof it is a fuel car. It is 62 only.
I saw one at Carlisle with FI markings and the owner said it was not a FI car. He was wrong and would not believe it.- Top

Yes, indeed Mike and I share the same psychological disorder. If I knew of a good Psychologist I would look into this and seek treatment.I do know that he is luckier than I am, or maybe he just has better connections. The old owner said nothing about Gulf Oil, nor did he off-handedly mention that the old block was in the back of his garage. For those who have asked, I will try to send out a PM with some pictures.

Re: It's a Fuelie stupid
Jerry-Thanks for posting. The garage was packed with stuff around the car making a good look very difficult. The day that it was loaded up the temps were in the single digits and the wind blowing. One of our frequent Maine snow storms was predicted for the next day, giving me a small window of time to get this delivered to my garage.

And if I knew a good preacher, I'd seek some counseling to find out why I'm fixated on cars that were produced before I could even consider a driver's license. Let me know if you find a good Psychologist in Maine--I'll continue the search for a good Preacher in Wisconsin.
