    1970 Hard Top

Decided to clean up my HT. My question is, did the 3 front latches have that black sleeve or coating on the handles? Reba W ?

    Re: 1970 Hard Top

    Thad,
Good question, and I'd like to follow this thread.

My 1970 hardtop does not have plastic sleeves on the hold down levers, unlike the soft-top. I believe the hardtop to be authentic to my car, despite the sorted and spotty previous owner information I currently have.

Curious to know what comes out of your inquiry.
    Marc

Hi, Thad, you have raised an interesting question. Before replying I looked at the 1968-69 and 1970-72 judging guides. Both books state that the handles are chrome with no coating, but I don't believe that is correct.

I am pretty sure the 1968-69s were chrome, but there was a change sometime after that. It may have been after 1970 or during that year. Maybe it was with the change to soft dash knobs in 1972?

What are build dates of both your cars?

Since we are presently gathering information for the next revision of JGs, could we hear from owners of 1968-72 convertibles? (Jack Humphrey, I know that you have a 1971 convertible.)

I have found the handles on 73 hardtops to be chrome with no black sleeve.

          Lyle and All,
Agreed as to my '73 also having no black sleeve on the hardtop but the soft top with the sleeve.

The black coated handles were used on the "soft tops" only from 1970 on up. I don't know if it was a strict model year changeover or if there was some overlap during late '69 and early '70 production. I've never seen them on an original hard top.

I agree! My '71 has chrome handles on the HT and black rubber coated handles on the soft top...

The handles on our 68 are chrome, no coating.

All three of my 1970 Corvettes came with black plastic covers on the latches. Two conv. & the 1900mi. T top coupe. They were crome with black rubber stoppers. He is asking about 1970 not 71& 72 which we all know were 70 want to bees. LOL

                        Hi Reba,
My trim tag shows E29, but shipping report data shows production date of June 1st. Thanks!

Correection to my post above. Soft top lock change over was from 1968 to 1969 NOT 1969 to 1970 as posted. Sorry for the confusion.
