How does one remove the securing plates from the front weather stripping seal from a lift-off hardtop on a 61 corvette. It appears to have (for a lack of a better term) round headed nails?

If you are referring to the rectangular pieces with the rivet in the center then they should just pop off. Use a flat bladed screwdriver pushed under the plate and gently pry them up. They are just push in fasteners. When you go to put your new weatherstripping back in, you may have to try to close the holes a little with a punch around the edge so the new rivets hold.

Thank you it worked perfect. We used a Dremel cutting blade and sloted the rest of them and unscrewed them. Worked really well thank you.Comment

Mine came out with very light prying. Remember to let the new w/s warm up in the sun and use a little soap when installing back into the channel. Just take your time.Last edited by John F.; September 18, 2011, 10:47 AM.Comment
