diofference between 1102173 and 1102268 Generator

What are the differences between 1120173 and 1102268 as far as judging? I have the drawings and they look the same except the rear lower flange on the 173 is .4" thick and the 268 is .5" thick after a drawing change date of 11/6/62.

Anyone know if/when the flange thickness change was made for the 268?

I don't know if there is any visual difference except for the tag number. According to the parts catalog, they both use the same part number 1947303 commutator and 1947307 drive end plates. The only significant difference is in the part numbers for field coil set and armatures.

Significant differences. The front mount plate on the 2173 is aluminum and has a large rubber grommet for the lower mount. The 2268 has a cast front mount with nubs along the outer circumference and a solid non-rubber lower mount. Those differences, and others, are spelled out in an article in the Restorer written about 1978, and available on the NCRS CD.

Mike, are you sure about that? My info shows the 1102174 with the 1941168 aluminum front frame with the rubber grommet, 1102173 as solid mounted front 1947303 cast frame.

Mike, I think you are thinking about the 174? My drawings show the 173 and 2268 as almost identical.

So, what's one number when you're getting old? You guys are right on--I was thinking 2174. My oops.
