Sealing putty around door opener attach screws

Is there supposed to be sealing putty around the screws that hold the door opener mechanism located in the rear of the door. See picture attached.

no sealing putty on the screw heads but there may have been some white putty on the face of the latch itself, between the door frame and the latch. Some of which was forced out around the openings in the door.
Purpose? to hold the latch in position while the screws were drove home?
