My 63 SWC was recently judged and I received a deduct for the coating on the access panel in front of the rear wheel. This is the panel for access to the body bolt. The judge said it was supposed to be bare or galvanized; not body black or undercoat. I didn't challenge him at the time but I can't find any reference in the Judging Manual, Noland Adams or anywhere else on the treatment. I'm having it judged again; it's an easy fix to pickup a few lost points but I don't want to go the other way and loose points again. Thanks for the help.

Re: 1963 Body Bolt Access Panel
Hi Millard, the panel covers the body bolt which was put in way after under coat and blackout. Should be painted/dipped in semi gloss paint, raw screws holding it on. Easy fix!

Re: 1963 Body Bolt Access Panel
Millard,
I believe the car was undercoated prior to paint then blacked out after paint. After this process, the car was placed on the frame so the access plate was not in place until after the body was installed.
The plate was probably just black dipped primer, I can't imagine it bare. Is the plate on your 63 undercoated, if so that's probably what the deduct is for.- Top
