Where to get correct head gaskets?

Reading my JG, it shows that original head gaskets had a tab sticking off of them that showed "GM" I think.

Any idea where I can find a correct set?

Also, if my engine has been bored .030" over, can I still use factory head gaskets?

I don't recall that the original gaskets had a "GM" that was visible with the gasket installed. However, if they did and you want that feature you'll need to find a pair of GM #3748768, GM #3758440, or GM #3830711. I'm not absolutely sure that the 3830711 have the stamping, though. I'm pretty sure they do but I'm not positive.

I believe that the intake gaskets had the tab not the head gaskets.

Correction noted. I'll just get some Fel-Pro head gaskets then.

Any idea where I can buy these correct intake gaskets???

        Thanks!

Check the drive line. There was a member who had one last set for sale about 6 months ago. They are relatively rare.

The C1-C2 small block OE head gaskets have a round hole that you can see on the front outside corners of the head/block interface. The thickness can also be measured by inserting a feeler gage between the head and block along the front face of the interface, and they should measure .018", but mid-'62 to '63 SHP/FI engines were double gasketed at Flint.

I'm not aware that any judges measure head gasket thickness as a normal part of Flight judging.

Most SB head gaskets have a cylinder opening in the range of 4.080-4.100", so they can be used with overbores up to at least .060".

Noted, I found an NOS set I'll buy. Thanks!

I don't care about points so much as I care about being original and correcy.

I've got a set of used 3830711 off a '69 L-46 and the number is stamped, but it would not be visible with the gasket installed. It's also stamped "Mc 6631", which is probably the McCord number, and maybe they were the manufactuer. I doubt if these gaskets are OE since I think the ...711 was only a service part. They may have been discontinued in the last couple of years.

                  They are .022" thick.

John McRae also pulled what we believe are original gaskets off his '67 327/300 when he rebuilt it to Special 300 Horsepower specfication. I don't recall the number/thickness, but if he sees this, perhaps he can chime in.
