    Re: 2003 Front Spring Question

    George,
I measured my 03 aniversary (56K miles) yesterday and was 3 1/4" in the middle, 3 3/8" left, 3 1/8" right. I drove it last night and just measured again this morning but parked in a different spot in the garage. Now it is 3" in the middle, 3 1/8" left, 3" right. I have owned it since 52K miles and have never used anything other than soap and water to clean.

      Re: 2003 Front Spring Question

In about 2004, I bought a low mileage 2000 convertible. I bought it from a Chevy dealer, and was able to buy the GMPP extended coverage.

I thought it was AWFULLY low in the front when I bought it, but this was the first C5 I had owned. I fooled with the spring ends, as Clem mentioned. I tried to raise it.

One day, I went for my Maryland State emissions test, and wouldn't fit over the rack.

So, took it to the Chevy dealer, and they found that the front spring was cracked. The car had somewhere in the mid 20K's as far as mileage. The new spring restored the correct ride height.

I could not see the crack myself, BTW. The GMPP paid for the replacement at the time.

        Chuck,
Thanks for the comment. After reading the other posts, I think I may call my dealer tomarrow. I also measured the clearance on my 08 with 16K miles which I have owned from new and it is only 3 3/8". Does anyone know what they are supposed to be?

Stan, let me add that I sold the 2000 Corvette several years later to a friend in my NCCC Corvette Club back in Maryland.

Saw him regularly at events before we moved to Florida and he had no further issues with the spring.

Can't help with the actual ride height issue.

I will say that I after moving to Florida, we bought another C5, this time a 2001 coupe with low miles.

Have had it for 1.5 years, and have had no spring issues with it.

            Chuck, Stan,
Thanks for the posts. I found some good instructions on the CF site last night and am ready to try adjusting it. Should have done it today, but got into other projects.
I looked at it pretty well las weekend, I have a 4 post Lift, and didn't see or feel anything like a crack or crazing on the spring. I actualy took a little windex, the automotive one that is safe for plastic laminate and tinted glass. So I have pretty much touched the spring everywhere but under the center mount.
Anyway, I will try an adjustment and dependign on teh result take it into the dealer for a check.
            Thanks again for the support,
            George

              Re: 2003 Front Spring Question

I apologize for the late update. I actually did the unthinkable I jacked up my Corvette!!
With a few turns of the 10MM wrench I now have 3.5 inches of clearance to the air dam on both sides. That is almost .5 inch more than I had when I started as you see above.
Thank you to everyone who replied, that .5 inch makes a big difference on the driveways and speed bumps. And I don't think if looks even noticable.
