    C1 Rear Spring Variation

This is my first post so please bear with me. I have two sets of what I believe to be original C1 rear springs. One set has the side recessed areas that are normally seen where the bands are installed. These areas are approximately 2" long and they keep the band in place once it is crimped. The other set of C1 springs do not have the 2" long recess and the only thing keeping the bands in place are the curved ends of the leafs themselves. My question is, has anyone ever seen a set of C1 springs as per the second set as mentioned without the recessed area for the band installations? The set I have without the recessed areas do have the part #3751438 and a julian 1958 date code. They also appeared to be very original in regards to the bands and spring liners upon dissasembly.

Most C1 springs that I have seen do have the recess for the bands. Any information or comments would be most appreciated.

John, a picture would be help full. But I think what you are talking about are on the edges. The cut outs were usually found on 60 thru 62 leaf springs. They all had a groove on the bottom the full length except the short spring.

John, 56-7 have band groves in them, so expect '58 4 leaf springs would as well. Correct stamped # for the '58 4 leaf spring is 3751438. Does the other set of spring leafs have the groves or any part # or Julian date stamped in them like the 3751438 does? Gary....

Paul is correct as I am referring to the edges of the springs where the bands are installed. But I believe that the grooved edges were correct for all 56 through 62 models.

Gary, the other set I have is a set of 1956 springs part # 3711550 with a julian date of 131 and another seperate stamp of E6. I believe these were an original complete set as well and they have the side grooves for the band installations. I have seen manny sets of springs for the C1 cars but not a set without the sides or edges notched for the bands except for the set I have. All of the leafs from both sets are identical in width and legnth. I wanted to use these for a 58 290 HP car that I am restoring but I am questioning if they're correct. I thought about using the grooved set of leafs from the 56 springs but they are in need of re arching from someone like Eaton and I have seen mixed results from those efforts at a cost od $500.00. Thanks for all of your comments.

John, never paid much attention to rear springs past '57. Should have said band side notches instead of grooves. Didn't mean to confuse the band's side notches and the grooves on the bottom of the horizontal surface. Link to a previous post on '56-7 rear springs.

Gary, no confusion as it is definitely the notches on the side, the long spring grooves are identical. I appreciate your comments and help.
