      John:

Ed's advice may be the best/safest.

However PPG Acryliclean DX 330 Wax and Grease Remover is another alternative. Used by me and by professional body shops for removing wax and grease on painted automotive surfaces prior to re-painting. This stuff is very mild, and will leave a non-wax (dull) finish. You will need to then go back and add your polish or wax of choice.

But the DX 330 may be more than you want/need. Consider it if the Dawn doesn't do what you want. And if you do use the DX 330, try it on some lower front or rear panels first. Just in case.

Use warm water with the Dawn. Use warm to rinse if you can. Wash it a couple times that way.

You might try a clay bar. It will remove wax and any surface contaniments that the finish may have....

Just use Dawn dish washing liquid with warm water as a car wash. It has a high alkaline content which cuts thru carnauba wax, paraffin, and silicone oils. Rinse your car with warm water. I would do this a couple of times, and then dry off with a chamois towel. This should get your paint finish clean, and free of any wax. Follow up with a good clay bar treatment on your paint finish.
