Lack of NCRS award cars at BJ

In watching Barrett-Jackson this year, I am a bit surprised that none I have seen auctioned so far have those nice NCRS stickers, ribbons, and certifications this year. What happened?

i just came home from there. i actually saw several there. some had their own stickers in the windshield and their own ncrs judging awards but there were a few that were verified ncrs judged through barret jackson. there were a ton of vettes there for sure. i had to have a napkin handy for the drool. great car show.

At one point during the auction, one of the announcers mentioned that twenty one Corvettes had the NCRS letter of verification. On the other hand, they also announced that a veiwer had sent an email stating that NCRS no longer deducted for two stage paint. Some new owner may have a suprise in the future..................

OK, I am starting to see some now, and at closer looking through the brochure, sometimes the NCRS is shown. I do like some of the write-ups. Like one that says "Very nice older restoration with non-original motor cleverly re-stamped with matching numbers". Hope that doesn't cost extra for the "cleverness"

I have never attended a BJ auction, but in talking to many friends who go almost every year they claim that things have changed. It's their feeling that since BJ has gone to that "no reserve allowed policy" and today's economy - many vette owners who have real deal cars with the documentation and awards to back it up -stay away from no reserve. You have thousands of people sitting out there, trying to get a car at bargain basement prices. If you live a distance from the auction and don't have your own transportation, your expenses to ship and stay for a few days must also amount to a nice figure. My friends think many real deal cars now go only to auctions that still (at a extra cost) allow a reserve to be set.
Don't know how true that might be.

Lot # 1267.1 67 Convertible Duntov all original / unrestored 400 hp tri power hammered at $72k.... looked like a give away to me... the values on many vettes seems to be low especially given this car on a Saturday afternoon with great NCRS documentation....

Glad i wasn't a seller and wish i was there as a buyer...

Just got back from BJ, friday night an all original 17000 mile 435 car went for 220000, lots of corvettes and lots of pickups.

Surprised me too, since the 69 Nova big block "recreation" shortly thereafter went for more.

maybe the supply has caught with the demand. i can see guys who have collections and need "that corvette" to complete his collection will pay the bucks but the people bidding just to have a corvette are out of money. i remember our estate auction where the auctioneer said he was going to stop the auction because the bidders were running out of money because he said the bids were getting lower.

I think that you should take into consideration the age of the awards on the 400 '67. Another question that begs to be asked "are all the rare, expensive parts still there?" Many award winning cars seem to "loose" those unobtanium parts as they change owners. Not really enough information to form an educated opinion as to value

would never ever sell my car at the BJ show, rather use kruse, russo/steele, leake where I could have reserve...BJ is just that for the rich and those who need face time or manhood validation on live TV....LOL It is however a great place to see hundreds of cool cars you can't see everyday, even the less than perfect ones.

As a general rule, auctions without reserve will bring more money that auctions with reserve. A lot of buyers will not participate in a reserve auction, feeling that they are probably wasting their time

Dick is exactly right. Next time you find yourself at an auction, watch what happens when the bidding stalls and the auctioneer announces that the reserve has been met or has been dropped. Rarely does the bidding remain stalled. As Dick will surely agree, the hard work to produce a successful auction is not the tallented calling of the auctioneer, but the bringing together of a large group of people with substantial resources and the desire for a particular item. Love it or hate it, the Barrett-Jackson guys do a great job accomplishing that. Chip.
