    Clutch Cross Shaft

What are the differences between early midyear SBC, 66-67 midyear SBC, and BBC. Specifically interested in angular difference between levers, and if all BBC shafts are shorter from ball to ball.
    Thanks.

Joe -- I can only offer part of the info you need. Attached pic is the 65-6 BB shaft 3872962. The included angle seems to be about 156 degrees (ie. if the pedal clutch rod arm end is vertical, the arm with the rod to clutch fork is forward by (180-156 =) 24 degrees. The tube length is 11"; too difficult to measure the one installed on my '65 SB but I notice the lower arm is at least another 10-15 degrees more forward [but then it takes the longer fork rod].

Seem to remember that John Hinckley has all the angles of all 3 shaft variants documented somewhere.

      Joe------

The shafts used for small blocks are the same tubular length as those used for big blocks. So, the "ball-to-ball" dimension is the same.

The primary difference between the cross shafts was the angularity difference between the levers. It's like this:

      GM #3832857 (63-65 except BB)-----135 degrees

      GM #3872962 (65-66 BB)--------------155 degrees

      GM #3888279 (ALL 67-81)--------------158 degrees
      In Appreciation of John Hinckley

          Hey Joe,

Is this the one you're talking about:

Can't tell from the pictures, but it looks like the 135 d one or the first one in Joe Lucia's post.

Remember that day we plated it after the San Jose Convention:

I wonder who it was that took the picture of you and your big balls?

Yup, that sure looks like a 1965 cross shaft to me, thanks to the info Joe and Wayne provided.

Say........have you thought about going into the plating bidness?

Psssssssssst........if you take my advice and paint yer hard top in BC/CC, I promise I won't tell anyone.

Here's a photo of my original '67 (279) cross shaft sitting next to two NOS service replacements.
