    '66 Seat Belt Anchor Cables

    Hey Guys,

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone know how to reproduce the black rubber tubing that runs the length of the center seat belt anchor cable? This is the one that is crimped onto the frame crossmember tab.

I recently bought a set of repro cables from a top vendor and they have some serious differences from my originals. As usual.

It appears that the original cable ball end was attached after the cable was routed through the tubing. What about shrink tubing? Anybody restore these?

    Probably not.

    Mike,

I used a plastic black dip purchased in the paint department at Lowes. Product is used to recoat missing rubberized grips on tools. Dipped my cable into the product, let drip for a minute. If you'll slowly rotate the cable before coating congels will aid in evening out the coating. Looks great when done. May need to recoat to get desired thickness.

      Thanks Mike,

I'm definitely gonna try to use my originals now. Excellent info.

I'm going to PM you about my '66. I see you're in the Oklahoma area. My car's from there.

      Mike

I used a 1/4" black shrink tubing that I worked over the ball end and thru the slot. I left it loose (did not shrink it) just like the original. Looks original. I used the original cables.. just cleaned them up.
