length of speedo cable for 72 454 w/ automatic

Does anyone know the correct length of the speedometer cable for a 72 454 with auto transmission?

    Thanks

I believe the application used a 2 part cable with separate upper and lower cable assemblies. I don't know the lengths since the original parts were never available in SERVICE and speedometer cables are one of the few parts for which P&A Catalog information is, at best, "sketchy".

However, I know who knows and they can sell you the correct cable----Dr. Rebuild.

Whereas the 72 4 speed cars used a single speedo cable of approx 72", the
TH400 auto trans did indeed use a two piece upper and lower cable as per
      Joe L comment.

Here is the info I got from my P & A catalogs:

      Cable only - lower - #6478091 - approx 25.50"
      Cable only - upper - #6477297 - listed as 37 7/16"
      Cable & Casing - lower - #6454481 (AC# CC291) - listed as 24 3/4"
      Cable & Casing - upper - #6478170 - This was a 40" unit for service rep.

These are old part numbers so I doubt if any of them are available.

I replaced the speedo cable on my 72 BB (w/A.T.) around 1990 with what I recall to have been a replacement part number that was on the GM parts book at the time and was definitely GM part.
I just measured it ( single piece cable) and it is just shy of 40". Anything longer and it would be a waste in my opinion.
        Hope that helps.
