What is the correct top bolt to use on the distributor sheilding on a 1966 327-300hp engine? I see some cars have a hex bolt and others have a wing bolt, same as the side bolts. Thanks for any info.....

Re: Distributor sheilding top bolt
John,
I can't answer that, if you have a 1965 AIM what part # is called out for the bolt? I will compare it to the 67 AIM # for the bolt.
Many pics I have seen show bolts that look exactly like the oil pan bolts.- Top

Re: Distributor sheilding top bolt
Larry,
It's my understanding that the hex bolt is correct for a small block and NOT a wing nut. The known markings on the bolt are E and EL. I agree that they look identical to the timing cover bolts too.....Happy New Year.- Top

Re: Distributor sheilding top bolt
JB etal, Readily available bolt from a pal of ours. Goes by the name of Art something or other.
Recessed hex, free spinning star, E logo.
I see show cars using a variation of that bolt. Has a dot after the E and wonder where those bolts are coming from. Are they repros or some other application???
Meanwhile JB about the worst thing you can do with your fuel car when it's done is to put the distributor shield (cover) on it. Whew!!! What a poc part. Leave it off. You don't even need it for judging. Well you need it put not on the car. Nice judging chairman makes a speech for car owners and very politely tells them to remove the distributor shield , etc.
So leave it off permanately.- Top
